The last of the trio, the Florida Life Building, was completed in 1912. The narrow, 11-storey tower briefly held the title of the tallest building in Jacksonville. The Laura Street Trio was left empty in the mid-90s, but in 1999, a German investor bought up the properties.

However, after the investor threatened to demolish the historic buildings, the City of Jacksonville took ownership in 2002, purchasing the structures for $3 million (£2.2m).

In September 2021, renovation works to turn the trio into a Marriott hotel were meant to begin, but uncertainty over public funding is stalling the project. As of October 2025, it's unclear what is happening to the buildings.
