Sadly, dozens of rural county hospitals have closed across the southeast of the US. In Georgia alone, eight rural hospitals, including this one, closed between 2008 and 2023 alone. According to a February 2024 report, 18 of the state's 30 remaining rural hospitals are at risk of closure due to financial problems.
