Perhaps the most internationally famous French actress of the 1950s and 60s, Brigitte Bardot is remembered as much for her barefoot, carefree style as for her movies, which include hits like And God Created Woman and A Very Private Affair.

Born in Paris in 1934, Bardot has lived at La Madrague, her St Tropez villa (pictured) since 1958. While Architectural Digest describes the home as the "most emblematic villa in Saint-Tropez" it's a popular target for paparazzi and tourists. These days, Bardot is an animal rights activist and splits her time between La Madrague and the more secluded La Garrigue, where she looks after rescued animals.
