Upon his move to Hollywood, Lugosi lived in Villa Dorada, one of Old Hollywood’s most historic mansions. The 1929 Spanish Revival estate, in fact, has a roster of celebrity owners and residents, including Oscar-winning songwriter Jimmy Van Heusen and actress Yvette Mimieux.

Lugosi rented the residence in the early 1930s while his house nearby was being built, but it was originally designed and built for retired physician and surgeon Frederick Dunsmoor in the late 1920s by architect Adolph Semrow.

Villa Dorada sits at the end of a secluded cul-de-sac, spanning just over a third of an acre (0.1ha). There are only 14 other homes on the row, meaning privacy for celebrity owners.
