Ellen DeGeneres’ Santa Barbara estate: $34 million (£26.3m)

Arguably the foremost celebrity property flipper of them all, Ellen DeGeneres is said to have bought and sold over 20 properties in the past two decades. The star has shown a particular liking for Southern California's Santa Barbara area, a coastal county popular with the rich and famous.
Nestled in the region's celebrity enclave of Montecito, the talk show host sold an enchanting stone property for $34 million (£26.3m) in 2018 to Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos, as reported by British newspaper The Daily Mail.
The home's whimsical, castle-style entrance is pictured here, clad in greenery and shrouded by trees.

The talk show host and wife, Portia de Rossi, originally listed the house for $45 million (£34.8m) the previous year, having purchased the 1930s mansion for $26.5 million (£20.5m) in 2013.
Architect Wallace Frost originally built the house for himself in 1936, inspired by the classic style of 17th-century Italian mansions from a jaunt working in Europe. Decades later, acclaimed architectural designer John Saladino undertook a five-year restoration of the property, retaining its original stonework, wooden beams, tiles and terracotta surfaces.

The property was featured in Ellen's 2015 book Home, where she wrote at the time that she wanted to "live here forever".
Constructed from sandstone and timber, the main residence has six bedrooms and six full bathrooms and extends across 10,500 square feet (975sqm).
Ellen and Portia spared no expense in updating the historic property to create a relaxed California vibe, installing a marble-wrapped chef’s kitchen, several libraries and reading nooks and formal rooms for entertaining.

Outside, they added an indoor-outdoor pavilion built from stone excavated on-site, along with a lap pool, a sunken tennis court, a state-of-the-art irrigation system and a security system. Best of all are the sweeping mountain views of the surrounding area, which can be glimpsed from the terrace.
The couple has been flipping homes in Southern California for decades. However, Ellen and Portia decided to relocate to the UK in 2024, purchasing a farmhouse in the picturesque Coltswolds region. The pair has reportedly extended the home to create their dream rural retreat.
Rob Lowe's Montecito manor: $44.5 million (£34m)

Known as Oakview, the 10,000-square-foot (929 sqm) property has six bedrooms, 11 bathrooms and a long list of luxurious amenities. Its design was inspired by Mount Vernon, George Washington’s Virginia plantation home, Lowe told Architectural Digest in 2016.
Bright and elegant, its living spaces all benefit from intricate cornicing, grand fireplaces and crystal chandeliers. Large windows also frame the 3.4-acre (1.4ha) garden and offer views of the Santa Ynez Mountains.

Rob Lowe made a huge profit on this sprawling mansion in the exclusive Californian suburb of Montecito, which he sold for $44.5 million (£34m) to healthcare executive Jack McGinley in 2020, according to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com.
The star of classics such as The West Wing and St. Elmo's Fire paid just $8.5 million (£6.5m) when he bought the original plot in 2009 and set about designing the ultimate celebrity hideaway. The Colonial-style estate has changed hands again since then and was purchased by Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and his wife model Behati Prinsloo in 2022 for $52 million (£40m).

The house boasts a stunning living room, a piano bar, a formal dining room, a luxurious kitchen adorned with Carrara marble, a family room, a morning room, a library, a home theatre and a fitness centre.
There's also an office with a private veranda, koi pond and waterfall. The master bedroom, meanwhile, has a private balcony with views stretching all the way to the Pacific Ocean.

Of course, the home's grounds are equally as impressive. Sprawling and secluded, the garden comes complete with a swimming pool, tennis court, cabana and a separate guest house, too.
Since it found its way into Adam Levine's property portfolio, it is bound to have changed significantly. The musician is an avid architecture buff and will no doubt have made his stylish stamp on the elegant home.
Sting's Manhattan duplex: $50 million (£38.2m)

Sometimes referred to as the world's most powerful address, it's no wonder that Sting made a killing when he sold his duplex penthouse at 15 Central Park West in 2017. The former lead singer of English rock band The Police sold the New York City apartment for a staggering $50 million (£38.7m), having initially listed it for $56 million (£43.3m) according to British newspaper The Daily Mail.
The penthouse was most recently on the market in December 2023 for the slightly lower figure of $48 million (£37m), though it's since been removed from the market. Once you step inside, you'll see why this piece of real estate is so desirable.

The sprawling apartment is pictured here in images supplied by TopTenRealEstateDeals.com when Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, first put the property up for sale in 2017.
While subsequent owners have since redesigned the penthouse, we think it looked pretty luxurious during Sting's tenure.
Highlights of the two-storey, 5,417-square-foot (503sqm) home included the spacious main living room, complete with an architectural fireplace and stunning views across Central Park.

Featuring metro tiles and marble countertops, the all-white kitchen was equipped for party catering thanks to its two refrigerators, four ovens and three dishwashers. A sculptural spiral staircase connected the streamlined space with the penthouse's upper floor.
When Sting lived here, the home had a total of four bedrooms. The expansive master suite had two large dressing rooms and two ensuite bathrooms with spa-style amenities, including a rainfall shower and steam room.

Still a key feature in the redesigned duplex, the 400-square-foot (122 sqm) terrace that lines the living areas offers a private space to soak up picture-perfect views of the New York skyline.
The 'Message in a Bottle' singer is said to have bought the penthouse in 2008 for $27 million (£21m), so he almost doubled his investment in less than 10 years.
Adam Levine’s ranch-style house, Pacific Palisades: $51 million (£39m)

Adam Levine has one seriously impressive property portfolio and a reputation for being a savvy property flipper. The Maroon 5 frontman surpassed himself when he sold his stunning ranch-style home in Pacific Palisades in 2022 for $51 million (£39m).
Levine and his model wife, Behati Prinsloo, bought the park-like estate from Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner in 2018 for $32 million (£24.5m), making themselves almost $20 million (£15.3m) in profit when they sold up.
Adam Levine’s ranch-style house, Pacific Palisades: $51 million (£39m)

It was Southern California’s third-priciest home at the time, and one of the biggest deals ever in the coastal community, reported the Los Angeles Times.
Spanning three acres (1.2 ha), the estate includes a 9,000-square-foot (836 sqm) single-storey ranch, a four-bedroom guesthouse and a separate building with a gym, office and yoga studio.
Built in 1940 by mid-century architect Cliff May, Levine turned to the mother-son duo of Clements Design to take on a reworking of the interiors, with stunning results, as glimpsed in a tour of the house the couple gave to Architectural Digest’s Open Door series.

The main residence comes with five bedrooms and eight bathrooms and boasts abundant natural light, wood floors and steel windows and doors.
Sleek white plaster walls are enhanced by the occasional burst of colour from the pair’s art collection, while the super stylish kitchen has an adjoining informal dining area, where the couple and their children spent most of their time.

The couple’s his-and-hers walk-in wardrobes are one of our favourite features. Levine has an impressive sneaker collection, while his wife’s closet boasts vintage collections from her fashion career.
Heading outside, walking paths navigate the landscaped grounds outside, leading to a swimming pool and basketball court, while grassy lawns and patios take in views from downtown LA to the ocean. Bliss.
Kylie Jenner’s Holmby Hills mansion: $55 million (£42m)

It’s no surprise that Kylie Jenner, the woman who was once the world’s youngest self-made billionaire, has a property portfolio worth writing home about.
Although no longer holding billionaire status, the social media mogul and influencer has a wealth of real estate across California, including a Holmby Hills LA Mansion worth over $50 million (£39m). Let's take a look...
Kylie Jenner’s Holmby Hills mansion: $55 million (£42m)

The fortress-style home has been home to the celebrity and her two children Stormi and Aire from her relationship with rapper Travis Scott for four years.
Although, a report in British newspaper The Sun in January 2024 suggested she had listed the property for $55 million (£42m).
She would be hard-pressed to find another home that is so private and secure. The structure is encased in concrete and boasts a dedicated guardhouse on site. We got a glimpse of the home when Kylie took part in Vogue magazine's 73 Questions interview.
Kylie Jenner’s Holmby Hills mansion: $55 million (£42m)

Located on a plot of nearly one acre, the 19,000 square-foot (1,765 sqm) home boasts seven spacious bedrooms and 11-and-a-half bathrooms, as well as a spectacular kitchen, seen here in October 2020, when Kylie and Stormi were making Halloween biscuits atop marble countertops.
Inside the home, you’ll also find geometric chandeliers hovering above the polished concrete floors, as well as a home cinema, bar and multiple games rooms to entertain family and friends.

Outside, you’ll find a stunning central courtyard, accessed via the building’s fully retractable walls, which open out onto the palm tree-framed swimming pool.
The cosmetics founder has reportedly been dating actor Timothée Chalamet since January 2023, and the Wonka star is said to have moved his things into the mega-mansion. So, perhaps Kylie has decided to stay put.
Johnny Depp’s French village: $55.5 million (£42.4m)

Proving that some parts of the world really do offer far more bang for your buck, Johnny Depp’s incredible French estate is worth just $5 million (£3.8m) more than Sting's penthouse but comes with its very own tiny town!
Located on a sleepy hillside close to iconic Saint-Tropez, the property spans 37 acres (15ha) and comes complete with a main house, guest cottages, a chapel, an art studio and a private restaurant that the Edward Scissorhands star named Café Marcheline.
Johnny Depp’s French village: $55.5 million (£42.4m)

Depp, who won his 2022 defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard, snapped up the estate in 2001 for an undisclosed sum, but then spent 15 years piling around $10 million (£8m) into it, restoring the village's numerous stone structures that date back to the early 1800s as reported by Homes&Gardens Magazine.
As you might expect, the charming Provençal Village definitely has its fair share of quirky additions, including a skate park and a Pirates of the Caribbean-inspired wine cave, kitted out with skulls.

The estate’s Bohemian-style interiors span some 13,000 square feet and there's a total of 15 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms.
Rustic and cosy, every living space benefits from natural stone accents, exposed timber beams and woodburning fireplaces. There's a state-of-the-art gym, two swimming pools and a private beach.
There's even an old-fashioned wagon outside, which serves as a rather quirky guest suite.

The property has been on and off the market in recent years, with asking prices ranging from $27 million (£21m) to $63 million (£48m) in 2015 and 2016 alone, according to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com.
The movie megastar dropped the price to $55.5 million (£42.4m) in 2021, and then appeared to have a change of heart, with British newspaper the Daily Mail reporting in June 2024 that Depp was planning on giving the enchanted village a major makeover.
Kim Kardashian's Hidden Hills mansion: $60 million (£46m)

Now worth a jaw-dropping $1.7 billion (£1.3bn), Kim Kardashian can certainly afford her mega roster of real estate, including the Hidden Hills mansion she now owns outright following her divorce from Kanye West.
The couple originally bought the mansion together for $20 million (£15.3m) in 2014 and proceeded to spend another $20 million (£15.3m) on extensive renovations.

Despite a few legal battles with neighbours about building an underground vault in 2021, something the Kardashian has denied according to celebrity site TMZ, Kim has made her home in LA, where she spends the majority of her time with her four children: North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm.
Post-separation, the Hidden Hills mansion is still Kim's primary residence, having bought out Kanye's share of the estate for $23 million (£17.6m) according to magazine US Weekly.

Inside, you'll find eight bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a staff kitchen, a "show kitchen" and a beautiful lounge with a vaulted ceiling.
Following the extensive renovations, which were designed by Axel Vervoordt, the home features a stark, minimalistic interior and is now worth $60 million (£46m) according to Kris Jenner and as reported by Hello magazine.
There's also an ultra-cool playroom for Kim's four children, a huge walk-in pantry that wouldn't look out of place in a restaurant and a garage complete with a security pod, manned 24 hours a day.

The home, which comes with two vineyards, two swimming pools and a 1,050-square-foot (320 sqm) pavilion, was featured on the cover of Architectural Digest, and Kim has posted countless images of herself around the house, particularly in this spot in her bathroom, as well as on the stunning curved staircase.
The star, who stars alongside Glenn Close in drama All’s Fair, about an all-female divorce firm, gave Vogue a tour of the house in 2019, where she described the house as a “minimal monastery”.
Rod Stewart’s Los Angeles château: $70 million (£54m)

Sir Rod Stewart and his wife, the former model Penny Lancaster, decided to sail on to pastures new in June 2023. According to TopTenRealEstates.com, they listed the North Beverly Park mansion for a whopping $70 million (£54m) with Douglas Elliman.
The singer bought the land on which he built the mansion for a mere $12 million (£9m) in 1991. But he increased the asking price to a whopping $80 million (£61m) later in 2023, before dropping the price to $74 million (£56.6m) in February 2024, reported People Magazine.
Rod Stewart’s Los Angeles château: $70 million (£54m)

The 13-bedroom, 19-bathroom house was designed by architect Richard Landry and was inspired by the châteaux found in England and France.
It features a classical fountain outside while inside it boasts sweeping marble staircases and floors, Corinthian columns and intricate mouldings.
The main house extends across 28,500 square feet (2,648 sqm), while a smaller guesthouse is, at 4,500 square feet (418 sqm), still far larger than most people’s houses.

The Great Room on the ground floor comes with a bar, while the dining room sits 20 and each space is lavishly adorned with sumptuous furnishings, expensive artwork and marble or wood flooring. There’s a wood-panelled library, a screening room and even a jade-green speakeasy.

There are around 70 houses in Beverly Park, many of which are owned by Hollywood’s finest including Denzel Washington, Sofia Vergara and The Rock.
Naturally, the expansive property offers a stunning swimming pool, landscaped gardens and even a football pitch, which tends to be a feature of all the singer’s properties. Meanwhile, the rocker spends most of his time at his mansion Durrington House in Hertfordshire, England.
Oprah Winfrey's Promised Land estate: $100 million (£77m)

Fans of Oprah Winfrey might already know that the talk show host has a seriously impressive property portfolio. Her main asset is known as the 'Promised Land' estate, which is thought to be worth more than $100 million (£77m).
Spanning 70 contiguous acres (20ha), the Californian compound is made up of numerous different properties, including Oprah's 23,000-square-foot (2,137 sqm) neo-Georgian mansion, which boasts amazing landscaped grounds.
Oprah Winfrey's Promised Land estate: $100 million (£77m)

Oprah's love affair with the estate goes back to 2001 when she was invited to a party in the idyllic area of Montecito near Santa Barbara. She instantly fell in love with the tranquil 42-acre (17 ha) property and began persuading the owners, Robert and Marlene Veloz, to sell her their home.
Although it wasn't on the market at the time, the couple couldn't refuse the $52 million (£40m) that Oprah offered them. The compound included a main mansion, a guesthouse and various outbuildings.
Oprah Winfrey's Promised Land estate: $100 million (£77m)

Oprah has spent years accumulating more land and properties around the estate. The Promised Land parcel now includes a 23-acre equestrian estate known as Seamair Farm and actor Jeff Bridges' former Spanish Revival home, seen here, for which Oprah paid just under $6.9 million (£5.3m).
She sold off a smaller ranch-stye property across the road in early 2023 for $14 million (£11m) according to magazine Architectural Digest.

Oprah certainly chose the right name for her estate. The spread is now said to include gated equestrian facilities with stables and a tack room, at least 13 separate buildings, two pools and a tennis court.
She also owns a 43-acre (17 ha) estate on Orcas Island, Washington, a ski chalet in Telluride, Colorado, and a 100-acre (40 ha) ranch on the Hawaiian island of Maui. Wow.
George Clooney’s Lake Como mansion, Italy: $100 million (£77m)

Set within the idyllic Laglio commune in Italy, George Clooney’s Lake Como mansion was always intended as a holiday home but it became a regular residence for Clooney and his wife, Amal.
While the purchase price has never been officially released, The Richest reported that it cost the movie star $13.5 million (£10.4m) back in the early 2000s.
Today, according to the Wall Street Journal, it is worth a whopping $100 million (£77m) and is the most highly valued asset in Clooney's impressive portfolio.
George Clooney’s Lake Como mansion, Italy: $100 million (£77m)

The incredible lakeside mansion, which dates to the 18th century and is officially named Villa Oleander, was sold to Clooney by the Heinz family two decades ago.
The villa rests on a lakeshore cove, framed by rich botanical gardens, olive groves and local vineyards. It holds a special place in the heart of the actor because it is where he met his wife when she was brought along to a dinner party there by a mutual friend. The couple married in Venice in 2017.
George Clooney’s Lake Como mansion, Italy: $100 million (£77m)

It’s little wonder the Clooneys have spent so much time at the property over the years, with its 25 rooms, its copious walk-in closets and its indoor gym and tennis court, with a swimming pool for cooling off afterwards.
The American actor was made an honorary citizen of Laglio in 2004 and has transformed the municipality into a popular tourist destination.
Perhaps too popular; the mayor had to issue a restriction order stopping fans and the media from approaching his home with hefty fines.
George Clooney’s Lake Como mansion, Italy: $100 million (£77m)

Clooney denied reports that he was planning to sell his Lake Como home in 2023, although he bought a château in Provence in the South of France in 2021 and is said to spend much of his time there with his wife Amal and their twins, Ella and Alexandra.
In October 2024, he sold his long-time LA Studio City home, which he bought from Stevie Nicks in 1995, to NFL star Christian McCaffrey and his wife reality star Olivia Culpo for $14.5 million (£11.2m).
Pierce Brosnan's oceanfront estate: $100 million (£77m)

You could almost be on a far-flung tropical island at Pierce Brosnan's exotic Malibu mansion. The 90s movie star bought the land for the Thai-inspired, oceanfront compound in 2000 before spending ten years transforming it into a tranquil haven, with its lush gardens and Japanese-style spa.
The Mamma Mia star listed it in 2020 for $100 million (£77m) but the property languished on the market and he now seems to have had second thoughts about letting it go…
Pierce Brosnan's oceanfront estate: $100 million (£77m)

The iconic actor certainly has as much style as his on-screen persona, James Bond. Known as Orchid House, the billionaire bolthole was completed in 2010, ten years after Brosnan purchased two lots of land for around $10 million (£7.7m).
Secured behind carved teak entry gates, the waterfront villa benefits from panoramic coastal views from almost every room. Chic and sophisticated, the resort-style property is finished with the finest materials for a truly exceptional finish.
Pierce Brosnan's oceanfront estate: $100 million (£77m)

This beautiful beach house offers an open-plan layout filled with natural light. Every room features wide-plank teak floors, handcrafted woodwork, scissor truss ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing the ocean outside to do all the talking.
The house has five bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, a stunning chef's kitchen, a butler’s pantry and a custom-designed, temperature-controlled wine closet. Elsewhere, you'll find a gym, a recording studio and a screening room with a bar and surround sound.
Pierce Brosnan's oceanfront estate: $100 million (£77m)

Sitting on over an acre of land, with 117 feet (36m) of private beachfront, the estate also offers an art studio and a two-storey pool house for VIP guests.
The perfect spot for serene relaxation, the saltwater swimming pool is surrounded by landscaped grounds, while the envy-inducing spa features multiple saunas, a steam room and a plunge pool.
It must feel like a home from home for the couple, who also have an oceanfront home in Kauai in Hawaii.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Brutalist Malibu mansion: $200 million (£154m)

The ultimate power couple, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have a reported combined net worth of $2.6 billion (£2bn), so it’s no surprise they have a stunning property portfolio to match.
Their most recent purchase, a concrete mansion in Malibu, however, has blown all their other homes out of the water. The architectural gem cost $200 million (£154m). That makes it the most expensive home ever sold in California, and the second-most expensive property deal in US history according to Forbes.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Brutalist Malibu mansion: $200 million (£154m)

The iconic structure is one of the few American residences designed by the revered Japanese architect Tadao Ando. The home reflects his signature concrete monolithic style and includes an ornamental reflecting pool, a feature that has become one of the architect’s calling cards.
Believe it or not, the 30,000-square-foot (2,787 sqm) compound was something of a bargain, as Bey and Jay received a 30% discount from the owners, who were originally asking a whopping $295 million (£220m) for the unique building.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Brutalist Malibu mansion: $200 million (£154m)

Known as the Bell House, the Brutalist-style structure was commissioned by Bill and Maria Bell in the late 1990s and took over 15 years to complete.
The couple are among the world’s most prolific art collectors, and the house was commissioned in part to house their large modern art collection, which includes works by Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst.
It’s not everyone’s cup of tea though and has drawn comparisons with a James Bond villain’s lair.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Brutalist Malibu mansion: $200 million (£154m)

One of its wow-factor features is the expansive terrace of polished concrete overlooking the ocean.
But despite the home’s unique design, it’s not the only Ando masterpiece in the area. Back in 2021, one-time close friend of Jay-Z, rapper Kanye West purchased another Malibu residence by the famed architect, which shares similar characteristics.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's Château Miraval, France: $225 million (£168m)

Perhaps even more impressive than Beyoncé's expensive home is Château Miraval, in Correns, in the South of France. Worth in the region of $225 million (£168m), the sprawling 1,000-acre (405 ha) estate features several structures from the 17th century and includes a working vineyard, a lake, outdoor swimming pools and 20 fountains.
Inside, it has 35 bedrooms, an indoor pool, billiards room, screening theatre, two gyms, a sauna and a Jacuzzi. There's also a banquet hall, of course!
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's Château Miraval, France: $225 million (£168m)

The couple married here in a secret ceremony at the estate’s Romanesque chapel in August 2014 but became embroiled in a bitter real estate spat over the property following their split in 2016. Central to the dispute was the Miraval wine brand the couple launched in 2013, under the guidance of the wine-making Perrin family.
Pitt became passionately involved with the wine business following the couple’s split, developing his Fleur de Miraval rosé champagne, which was served at the Oscars in 2022 and 2023.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's Château Miraval, France: $225 million (£168m)

Pitt sued his ex-wife in 2022 for selling her half share of the property to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler for $62 million(£47m) in October 2021, without his consent. He said it went against their prior agreement to offer the other right of first refusal.
Pitt is said to have poured millions into the estate, expanding the business and riding the rosé wave, so that the property is now worth several times the $60 million (£46m) the couple originally paid for it in 2012.
The lawsuit also alleged that Jolie had contributed “nothing to Miraval’s success”, reported British newspaper The Evening Standard.

Since then there have been more allegations, reports of forced Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), and an ongoing legal battle surrounding the Miraval brand dubbed the "War of the Rosés".
Despite being a source of sadness and acrimony, Brad Pitt still spends time at the estate. The star even used the property as a location for his GQ shoot to promote the film Wolfs with his co-star George Clooney, whose Brignoles château is just a 15-minute drive away.

The star dropped a bombshell in September 2023 when he announced the end of his almost three-decade marriage to actress Deborra-Lee Furness.
