Mel B's West Hollywood home

The Spice Girls rose to fame in 1996 with the release of their debut single, 'Wannabe'. The English girl group dominated the music charts in the UK and around the world until 2001, when they officially disbanded.
Melanie Brown (AKA Mel B) was nicknamed Scary Spice and became loved for her unapologetic personality. She went on to serve as a judge on The X Factor in the UK and Australia, and on America’s Got Talent. Today, the singer is thought to be worth a cool £7.4 million ($10m). Let's take a look at one of the homes she snapped up with her fortune.
Mel B's West Hollywood home

Located in the Bird Streets neighbourhood of Los Angeles, the property was built in 1928 but shows no signs of its age. Spanning 5,226 square feet (486sqm) across four floors, the mansion is modern and super chic.
Mel B reportedly bought the home for £3.2 million ($4.3m) in 2014, with her now ex-husband, Stephen Belafonte. The pair finalised their divorce in December 2017, after 10 years of marriage, and shortly afterwards, the house was listed for sale for £6.7 million ($9m). It was later reduced to £4.4 million ($5.9m), according to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com.

With floor-to-ceiling glass walls, 20-foot (6.1m) ceilings, and timber accents throughout, the home is filled with light. There's a gorgeous open-plan living area, a chef's kitchen, four bedrooms, and six bathrooms.
The entire fourth floor is devoted to the master suite, which has dual bathrooms, dressing rooms, and private terraces. There's even a movie theatre, a gym, a games room, and a recording studio. The amenities extend outside, too, where there's a pool and spa, an outdoor TV, a fire pit, and a built-in grill.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s longtime California home

In the 1990s, Arnold Schwarzenegger was one of Hollywood's biggest stars, thanks to movies like Total Recall, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and Jingle All the Way. Since then, he's continued to star in blockbusters and even served as the 38th governor of California, from 2003 to 2011.
Today, the actor and former professional bodybuilder is worth £740 million ($1bn) according to Forbes. Despite this vast fortune, Arnie owned a relatively modest home in LA’s Pacific Palisades neighbourhood with his then-wife, Maria Shriver.

The property was the family home for Schwarzenegger, Shriver, and their four children from 1986 until 2011, when Maria reportedly discovered that Arnie had fathered a child with the family's housekeeper.
Two years later, the house was on the market and sold to Maxwell Kennedy, the son of American politician Robert Francis Kennedy, for £9.5 million ($12.9m). In late 2021, according to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com, it was back up for sale, this time for £8.1 million ($11m), meaning Kennedy made a loss on his initial investment.

Traditional and homey, the 4,198-square-foot (390sqm) property features a formal living room, a large dining room, a spacious dine-in kitchen, a family room, a media room, five bedrooms, and six bathrooms – one for each of the Schwarzeneggers.
Outside, the backyard boasts a grotto-style pool, a hot tub, and a sauna. There's also a floodlit tennis court and numerous outdoor dining areas. The neighbourhood is known as a celebrity hotspot, and fellow 1990s stars Tom Hanks and Michelle Pfeiffer also call Pacific Palisades home.
Mel Gibson's Malibu mansion

In the 1990s, Mel Gibson was one of the biggest stars in the world. From Lethal Weapon 3 to Braveheart, the actor starred in more than a dozen movies during the decade. Today, he has an estimated fortune of £315 million ($425m).
It's safe to say the actor has plenty of cash to splash on real estate. And that's exactly what Mel did in 2008, when he bought this incredible private mansion in Malibu, paying a cool £8.5 million ($11.5m).

Mel bought the pad from fellow actor David Duchovny and his wife at the time, Téa Leoni. He is said to have meticulously maintained the property and added lush, natural landscaping to the 5.5-acre (2.2ha) estate.
The house itself spans 6,578 square feet (611sqm) and boasts stunning living spaces with wood floors, beamed ceilings, and rustic stone details. There are five bedrooms, five bathrooms, as well as a soaring double-height entrance hall, a chef's kitchen, and this dreamy lounge.

The master suite is truly fit for a VIP. Located in its own wing, it comes complete with dual walk-in closets and a private balcony with ocean views. Elsewhere, there's a pool house that Mel used as a gym, and a detached guesthouse situated above a three-car garage.
The garden also has two pools, including a regulation lap pool. Mel listed the home in 2017 for £13 million ($17.5m). It failed to sell and was relisted a year later, with a million-dollar discount.

Britney moved into the house in 2007, just after her divorce from Kevin Federline. She secured the 7,500-square-foot (697sqm), Mediterranean-style villa for £5 million ($6.8m), which, considering its scale and luxe features, sounds like a steal.
Kitted out with soaring ceilings, stone floors, and elegant chandeliers, the property was perfect for a pop princess. There's a colossal foyer with a sweeping ceiling, a spacious chef's kitchen, a family room, and a breakfast nook that overlooks the garden.

There's also a stunning living room with a double-height ceiling and an elegant fireplace, a home office, a movie theatre, a formal dining room, six bedrooms, and six bathrooms. There's even a soundproof music studio, which Britney no doubt used frequently.
Outside, there's a courtyard patio with a fire pit, a built-in barbecue, an alfresco dining area, and a saltwater pool with a raised spa. Britney sold the home in 2012 for a mere £1.6 million ($2.2m). That's £3.4 million ($4.6m) less than she paid for it five years prior, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Matt Damon's Pacific Palisades retreat

American actor, producer, and screenwriter Matt Damon is considered one of the world's most bankable stars, and boasts an estimated £125 million ($170m) fortune. From The Talented Mr. Ripley to Saving Private Ryan, Matt's movies are as impressive as his real estate portfolio.
He bought this stunning Zen-inspired retreat back in 2012, paying £11.1 million ($15m) for the privilege. Located in the exclusive neighbourhood of Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles, the mansion spans a staggering 13,500 square feet (1,254sqm).

With seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, the custom-built house effortlessly blends Californian modernism with Zen influences. It boasts a 35-foot-high (10.7m) entrance hall with a statement mahogany ceiling and an open-plan living and dining room, featuring a massive stone fireplace and steps that lead down to a billiards lounge and wet bar.
There’s also a media lounge, a luxurious kitchen with white marble counters, a lavish basement level, two staff bedrooms, a climate-controlled wine cellar with a tasting room, a high-end fitness centre, and a massage room.

The master suite is kitted out with a bathroom and two huge walk-in closets, one of which is clad in mahogany. It opens up to a private terrace, which provides idyllic views over the garden, where a children's playground, a resort-style swimming pool, spa, waterfall, koi pond, and numerous open-air pavilions can be found.
Unsurprisingly, the glamorous property was listed for a staggering sum when Matt waved goodbye in January 2021. He originally asked £15.6 million ($21m) but it finally sold for £13.4 million ($18m). It was one of California's priciest real estate deals in 2021, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Shaquille O'Neal's lavish Florida estate

In the 1990s, Shaquille O’Neal – AKA Shaq – emerged as one of the biggest sports stars in the world. He was a dominant force in basketball after being drafted by the Orlando Magic in 1992. In 1993, he won NBA Rookie of the Year, and three years later, he signed a seven-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, a deal worth an astonishing £89 million ($120m) – the biggest in NBA history at the time.
Today, it is estimated that the star is worth an eye-watering £370 million ($500m). In 1993, when Shaq was a relative newcomer, he bought a lavish home near Orlando for £2.9 million ($4m).

The massive mansion benefits from a 31,000-square-foot (2,880sqm) interior, with soaring ceilings, marble fireplaces and, according to Realtor, oversized custom furniture made to fit the 7-foot-1-inch (2.16m) star.
Highlights include this two-storey great room, a cigar room, an aquarium room, a home theatre, a dance studio, and a wine bar. The home’s four-acre (1.6ha) parcel offers 700 feet (213m) of lake frontage, a swimming pool with a custom rock waterfall, a summer kitchen, a Tiki-style cabana, and a covered boat dock with an electric boatlift.

Yet the home's pièce de résistance has to be this amazing, full-size indoor basketball court. The room carries Shaq's name on the hardwood floor, and the walls are decorated with his former basketball jerseys.
In 2021, Shaq finally sold the home for 60% less than his original asking price. The NBA star first attempted to sell it back in 2018 for a mammoth £21 million ($28m). He later reduced the price to £16.3 million ($22m). After three years, five real estate agents, and multiple price cuts, the sports star finally offloaded the place for £8.1 million ($11m), which is still a significant profit.
Sandra Bullock's stylish Georgia Island home

Sandra Bullock was one of the biggest names in the game in the 1990s. She starred in countless classics, like Speed, While You Were Sleeping, and Practical Magic. She continued to star in some of the most popular movies of all time, and today, she is believed to have £185 million ($250m) in the bank.
Between June 2001 and March 2002, Sandra is thought to have purchased this dreamy property in stages, combining them to create one gorgeous estate.

Both homes feature laid-back, beachy décor, which is fitting since the estate comes with its very own strip of sand.
Sandra first attempted to offload the home in April 2019, when she listed it for £4.8 million ($6.5m). In early 2021, the property finally sold for £3.1 million ($4.2m). That's £222,250 ($300k) less than the star originally paid.
Robbie Williams' waterfront Florida mansion

He went on to have big hits like 'Angels' and 'Let Me Entertain You', all of which earned him an estimated £222 million ($300m). Like many celebs, he used his money to invest in real estate, including this jaw-dropping mansion near Miami, Florida.

The 19,380-square-foot (1,800sqm) smart home was built in 2016 and features seven bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, two powder rooms, a marble kitchen, and a double-height atrium.
Robbie reportedly paid an extra £3.7 million ($5m) for the home's furnishings and is said to be planning an expansion of the property, including a floating padel court.
