Have you ever wondered what the tiny home craze is all about? Well, it's a growing movement that promotes the simpler life and a more sustainable living style. Let's take a look around some of the communities that are embracing the trend and bringing like-minded people together, who just love tiny homes.

This tiny house community in Arizona consists of six acres, 45 spaces, and a 19,000 square foot walking park lined with benches. Just 15 minutes from the local ski slopes, you'll also have access to hiking trails, lakes and forests. Interested in living here? You can choose from a range of different tiny homes to suit your needs. Whether it be a single storey one-bed or a two-storey build that is slightly larger.

Lease rates for plots range from $329 (£260) to $379 (£299) per month, and properties start at $59,900 (£47,300). Every lot's lease includes the price of water, sewerage and rubbish collection. The community is also located only minutes from Scott's Reservoir and Rainbow Lake, where there is access to public land for fishing.

The Sherry model is a single-storey house with one bedroom, a bathroom, kitchen and living space, all squeezed into less than 385 square feet of space. Prices for this house start at $85,900 (£67,800).

Opportunity Village offers people on low incomes the chance to stay in their own home. Each house is low cost, many of which are funded by charitable donations and constructed by volunteer builders. The residents just have to pay $30 (£23.70) a month to help with utility expenses.

The 30 residents share two bathrooms, a common kitchen and a yurt that houses computers. The site is governed by the residents and they share security shifts to make sure that everyone is safe.

This tiny house was donated to Opportunity Village by Project H Design. The home has a lofted bed with storage space and an open plan living area. It includes four solar panels and the exterior is made from reclaimed wooden palettes that have been stained to give the exterior a cool patterned design.

Emerald Village in Eugene is another affordable tiny house community, run by the same company as Opportunity Village, Square One. It includes 22 tiny homes ranging from 160 to 288 square feet, each with sleeping areas and living areas, a kitchenette and bathroom.

The monthly cost to live in one of the tiny homes is $250 (£197) to $350 (£276) per month, which covers utility expenses, maintenance, and all other operating costs. The rent is only so affordable because Emerald Village is part-funded by generous donations from community members and grants from local and regional foundations.

Whispering Aspen is a growing small-living community in the mountains of Colorado. Encircled by the Mosquito Mountain range, it lies just 30 minutes away from the 'ski mecca' of Breckenbridge. In warmer weather, climbing, hiking, guided horseback riding and ATV off-roading is just around the corner.

3,500 square foot lots are available for $32,900 (£2,600) and 1,300 square foot lots are available for $26,900 (£21,200). The community is made up of an eclectic mix of full-time residents, second home-owners and renters.

With 20+ existing cabins, several RVs, tiny houses on wheels and 10 lots ready to go, Whispering Aspen makes a great full-time living space. Residents can utilise the fully-equipped clubhouse, a community recreation area and hot tubs, which are open in the summer. 

 

All 700 residents pay a $95-a-month maintenance fee, which goes towards landscaping, snow-ploughing in the winter, newspapers in the communal area and rubbish collection.

Lake Walk is a unique tiny home community located on the shores of Lake Cunningham in Greer, South Carolina. The community is filled with people of all ages, from retirees wanting to downsize to a smaller home and a simpler life, to small families looking for a flexible lifestyle.

The small village has a common area and green zones next to the lake, which is home to the area's drinking water, but is also popular for boating and fishing. The village is currently offering four different styles of tiny homes to choose from, each measuring less than 400 square feet.

One tiny home option, The Alexander, comes in at 399 square feet. The largest of the tiny homes has a downstairs bedroom and twin bunks, plus a large loft.

Inside, the open-plan living space is made up of dark wood furniture and white-washed walls. The house will set you back $70,000 (£55,100) to $80,000 (£63,000) and you can lease a lot for $450 (£354) a month for a minimum of six months.

A leading designer in small dwellings, Sprout Tiny homes is now venturing into the community side of tiny living. River View at Cleora is a planned development set to be filled with with their own tiny properties.

The community will be located on 19.1 acres of land and includes 1,650 feet of prime Arkansas River frontage which makes it perfect for nature lovers. It has space for 200 tiny homes, a community building with a catering kitchen, exercise facility and management office, as well as a restaurant.

Rental rates will range from $700 (£551) to $1450 (£1140) per month and tiny home models range from $64,000 (£50,400) to $115,000 (£90,500). This particular model, the Container home, has bamboo flooring, a flat screen TV and is designed for extreme weather.

Green Bridge Farm in Georgia has its own tiny house community. The ecologically-friendly development is made up of 25 wooded acres of land with a 1.2-acre lot to build your own tiny house setting you back as little as $45,000 (£35,100).

On the farm, there are four acres of community space for vegetable gardens and fruit orchards. Gardening isn't mandatory for residents, but the lot is maintained by people living in the tiny houses.

Ravenlore is a colourful home that costs just $60,000 (£47,000). At 176 square feet, the tiny property packs in some impressive features, including a built-in solar power system, which reduces electricity bills and makes the structure sustainable.

As with many tiny homes, Ravenlore was constructed on wheels, making it exempt from the need for a building permit. Built using recycled materials and locally-cut lumber it's an eco-friendly dream.

Orlando Lakefront in Florida, is a growing tiny house community set in a redeveloped 1950's RV Park. Here, you can rent a lot ranging from $350 (£274) to $600 (£469) a month, it really is the perfect place for a tiny home.

The park currently has 23 tiny homes and 50 spaces up for lease in shade, sun, or just steps from the lake. You can even get your own tiny home on wheels built for you to your exact specifications and needs to make the transition to tiny living easy.

The park aims to grow organically and offers tiny housers a place to legally park their property. The park is only seven minutes from all the attractions and theme parks nearby, so you'll never be short of things to do.

Amenities on the park include a boat dock, fishing docks, and a green park. Included in the lot fee is water, taxes, sewage, laundromat use, landscaping and trash pick-up to keep everything spic and span.

Cedar Springs Tiny Village is a settlement in New Paris, Ohio. With lakefront views and surrounded by mature cedar trees, a waterside plot is going for $441 (£345) a month for a duration of 13 months. If you have a bit of a bigger budget, these luxury lakeside homes might be better suited to you. 

A collaborative effort between Modern Tiny Living and Gerald Brubaker, a visionary tiny house enthusiast, the community comes with a number of amenities including a community garden, a recycling program and private parking.

The Clover, is a popular model on the site but will set you back $89,000 (£69,675). Perfect for a full-time home the exterior has a sturdy steel roof, lapped smart siding with a 6-year warranty and an electric tankless water heater.
