Comedian and children's author David Walliams has put his luxurious London townhouse up for sale. Walliams bought the 3-bedroom home in 2005 for £2.98 million and has since renovated the Victorian property into a modern home now on sale for £5.3 million. But the house itself has had a varied history, and still draws people to its doors for one special reason...

This house has always been filled with the rich and famous; it was dubbed Supernova Heights by its former owner Noel Gallagher when he owned it in the 1990s. The house was a notorious party pad. Supermodels, pop stars and members of Oasis would stumble out of there at all hours into a waiting gang of paparazzi, with a few getting the sharp end of Noel's brother Liam's notorious temper.

As Oasis split and the Gallagher brothers feuded, Noel put the house on the market. When Walliams bought the five-storey townhouse in 2005 he completely renovated it, removing walls and ceilings to create an open-plan home.

Walliams married the Dutch supermodel Lara Stone in 2010 and they turned the property from a party house into a family home, ready for the arrival of their son Alfred in 2013. They lived together until divorcing in 2015 and have now decided to sell the house to new owners. So what does the inside of the Britain's Got Talent judge's home look like?

The couple removed ceilings and walls to create double-height, and sometimes even triple-height, rooms. At the front of the property, the spacious dining room is dominated by a statement chandelier that hangs over two floors.

Throughout the house, bespoke glass staircases are flooded with light pouring in from the many large windows. Spot the furry elephant standing under the stairs: could it could be for Walliams' son Alfred, or a plaything for the children's author himself?

A mezzanine first floor gives views down to the converted basement and up the stairs, connecting the ground floor with the rest of the house and extends the living – and partying – space. The decor is sleek, bold and decidedly European.

But there's more! Not only does the mezzanine connect the inside spaces, but the first-floor level also leads out to a roof terrace on top of the ground floor extension. It's a perfect spot for catching rays from the south-facing garden.

The living room sits under the mezzanine next to the sleek kitchen with a lower ceiling making the space cosier and more welcoming. The house's colour palette is perhaps surprising for such an outgoing, and often exuberant celebrity, but the muted colours make the most of the light that filters in from the room-wide skylight.

The master bedroom is a spectacular affair with a designer lighting scheme and an integrated bathroom, including a solid stone tub and a sumptuous grey velvet chaise longue.

The extension on the original Victorian building allows for a large living room, made to seem even bigger by the wall-length glass doors that lead out into the garden.

The garden is typical of a London terrace, long and narrow, but its sheer size is impressive – it is bigger than most London flats!

Walliams' five-year-old son has his own London-themed room in the property where he sleeps in a bed shaped like one of the capital's red double-decker buses. With fun framed pictures and toys galore, it's obvious Walliams treasures his son, but there's another resident that also had the run of the place...

Walliams's dog Bert is well known to his fans. His beloved pet pooch often stars on his Instagram, and when he's not in David's arms can often be seen lying in the grass of his owner's plush home.

Bert is even allowed on the huge corner sofa – anywhere that David goes, his furry friend is never far behind.

As well as children and dogs, David's house is often visited by his mum Kathleen and he's always taking pictures of her, just like this one he's snapped from the garden of her enjoying the sunshine on that roof terrace.

The average townhouse in this salubrious part of London easily goes for over £5 million, with a six-bedroom home on Steele's Road selling for £5,850,000 in July 2017. Walliams decided to knock through upstairs, creating three bigger bedrooms, so it could affect the final sale price by ruling out families with more than two children.
