Driven by their sustainability strategy, People & Planet Positive, the homeware titans teamed up Vox Creative and Escape to build their first tiny house on wheels.

The 187-square-foot trailer is a customised version of Escape’s Boho XL model and comes packed with eco features.

Equipped with solar panels and an off-grid hot heater, the design and build process for the tiny house project began late in 2019 and was completed in April this year. The trailer itself took less than 60 days to construct.

With more than 75 years’ experience, furniture giants IKEA were well-placed to put its clever space-saving strategies into action.

Abbey Stark, IKEA’s senior interior design leader, utilised every inch of space to showcase the retail giant’s range of recycled and energy-efficient products.

Kitchen unit fronts made from salvaged bottle tops and sustainably grown pine panelling create a sustainable yet stylish home that oozes hygge.

An array of multifunctional products help to maximise every nook and cranny for tiny living. For example, the collapsable NORDEN table functions as a workspace and dining area complete with built-in storage, while IKEA’s MALM bed features deep drawers in its base.

The solid wood and veneer SKOGSÅ worktops in the kitchen score high for sustainability too. They use timber from the whole tree, including branches and twigs, to minimise waste.

Ideal for keeping kitchen surfaces clutter-free, the TILLREDA portable induction cooktop can be packed away when not in use.

Despite its modest size, the small bathroom has everything you need, including a sink, shower and composting toilet. More green products have been chosen to furnish this zone, including the water-saving BROGRUND thermostatic showerhead and low-flow HAMNSKÄR tap.

The one-of-a-kind IKEA model is being offered for around £47,500 or you can pick up the Boho XL, which has the same layout, from Escape for approximately £35,600.
