Pantone picked THIS hot colour for 2019

Updated on 07 December 2018 | 0 Comments

Colour giant Pantone just predicted next year’s big trend and it's bold, beautiful and vibrant

The word is out and Pantone has spoken. According to the professional standardbearers of colour for the design industry, the shade set to brighten our lives next year is ‘Living Coral’. Named colour of the year for 2019, the punchy pastel is an animated shade of orange with a golden undertone.

Every year, industry giants and interior enthusiasts eagerly await Pantone’s winning hue, and their selection process is no joke. It requires thoughtful consideration and trend analysis, with experts combing the world in search of new influences.

Pantone's choice was inspired by the dazzling colours of the underwater world. They explained: "Just as coral reefs are a source of sustenance and shelter to sea life, vibrant yet mellow PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment."

It seems their colour predictions are already gathering momentum, as searches for coral on Wayfair.co.uk have increased by 1745% in the last year alone, paving the way for the tonal takeover in 2019.

"With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanising and heartening qualities displayed by Living Coral hit a responsive chord," explained Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

Contrasting hue

Living Coral looks just peachy against a crisp white background, but we can’t help but think it really lends itself to other vibrant tones.

For those feeling brave, opt for deep, dark ocean vibes with indigo blue wall paint, then accessorise with coral furniture for a pop of colour. Try adding Annie Sloan wall paint in Napoleonic Blue, £39.95 for 2.5 litres.
