Ultimate fixer-upper: eight-bedroom house for £72,000

Updated on 10 October 2019 | 0 Comments

This pretty former guesthouse near Blackpool promenade has bags of potential as a family home. Are you brave enough to take on this fixer-upper?

In a world where all we hear about is the rising cost of property, it’s a brief respite when we find a home that’s quite so affordable.

This eight-bedroom house, located just moments from Blackpool’s famous promenade, has recently been listed on Zoopla for a rather wallet-friendly £72,000.

The end of terrace property, for sale with Tiger Sales and Lettings, would be an ideal guesthouse, given its central location, or could be adapted into a very comfortable family home.

From the front, you can see the property boasts attractive bay windows and a brick exterior, which has been set off with white and turquoise detailing.

At present, the exterior of the house has largely been left alone but there is plenty of space here for a small front garden should you desire.

On the ground floor, you’ll find a good-sized entrance hall with under-stair storage, a kitchen, dining room, lounge and two bedrooms.

From the photographs, it’s clear that the home needs modernisation throughout, with the wood panelling, busy patterned carpet and pink ceiling in the sitting room appearing particularly outdated. We won't get started on the interesting orange curtains and ornamental plates.

The kitchen especially would benefit from being taken apart, as the generous space could take on a whole new lease of life with fresh kitchen units, a fitted island and new flooring.

We might also suggest looking at the window situation as more light here could really open the room up.

All the rooms are of impressive size and have huge potential, with many boasting period features such as alcoves and cornicing.

Upstairs are the remaining bedrooms, a bathroom and a separate WC.

However, for those after a touch of luxury, a couple of the bedrooms could easily be converted into a spacious master suite, with enough room for an ensuite, dressing room and even a seating area.

To the rear of the property is a large, low maintenance courtyard. Not much has been done with this area but it’s large enough to offer a little outdoor project for someone with a creative eye. The secure double gates also make it a good place for safe off-road parking.

The listing adds: "If you’re looking for something generous in size and a project in the making then look no further. This substantial eight-bedroom de-registered guest house has so much to offer."

So if you were wondering why the price tag is so small, it should be obvious now that full modernisation is required throughout this special home, however with the right attitude it could be a great little investment by the sea. Who wouldn’t love living so close to the beach?
