If you're searching for a spot to escape the rat race, then this uninhabited Irish island in the westernmost reaches of County Donegal could be the place for you.

Rathlin O’Birne island, which is listed for sale by DNG Dorrian, comes with two former lighthouse keeper's cottages, set in around seven acres of verdant land.
Remote residence
With an operational lighthouse, this stunning island is a major landmark at the entrance to Donegal Bay, with beautiful views towards the mountain of Slieve League and Silver Stand Beach in Malinbeg. A short boat ride away, you'll also find the bustling fishing port of Killybegs.
Breathtaking and rugged, the only way of reaching the island is by boat, and with no slipway, you're in no danger of being surprised by passing visitors.
The suggested purchase price of €75,000 (around £65,000) includes two semi-detached stone-built cottages, as well as some small storage units set out in a courtyard configuration.
However, though the buildings offer a generous 2,550 square feet of accommodation, they're pretty rundown and in need of a lot of work.

It’s worth bearing in mind that there are no services on the island either, including water, electricity, phone lines or sewage treatment.
The sale also doesn't include the remotely-controlled lighthouse, which is currently operated and managed by the Commissioners of Irish Lights.
