Demi Lovato has come a long way from her childhood home in Texas. With an impressive career spanning decades, it's no surprise that the American singer and actress has built up an impressive property portfolio along the road to stardom. Let's take a look inside some of the incredible places Demi has called home over the years. Click or scroll on...
Having spent time living across California in Laurel Canyon, Toluca Lake and Sherman Oaks, Demi Lovato has accumulated an incredible collection of jaw-dropping real estate to date. Today, she lives in a sprawling 8,500-square-foot home in the stylish Los Angeles neighbourhood of Studio City. However, the singer wasn't born into such a luxurious lifestyle.
A world away from the glitz and glamour that surrounds them today, Demetria Devonne Lovato was born on 20 August 1992, in Albuquerque, New Mexico and raised in Dallas, Texas. The middle child of three, Demi's parents, Patrick Lovato and Dianna De La Garza, divorced when the singer was just two years old. In 1995, Demi's mum married Demi's stepdad, Eddie De La Garza, who the star has spoken of as a father figure.
Demi's family lived in this three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in the city of Colleyville in northeastern Texas after the divorce. The 3,200-square-foot property was the perfect home for the budding star and today is estimated to be worth $563,000 (£408k).
In the past, Demi has been candid about the hardships the family faced while she was growing up. Her 2017 documentary, Simply Complicated, gave fans a glimpse inside her childhood home, including this gallery wall adorned with family photos.
Growing up, Demi entered and won a number of talent contests and performed in a host of famous venues, including the Dallas Cowboys' Thanksgiving Day halftime show with LeAnn Rimes. However, her career started to gain traction at the age of 10 when Demi became a regular on the children's TV show Barney & Friends, alongside close friend Selena Gomez.
In 2007 at the age of 15, Demi began working with Disney Channel, a move that helped catapult them to fame. Her first role was on As The Bell Rings, however, she was soon cast as Mitchie Torres in Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, alongside the Jonas Brothers.
After this on-screen success, Demi released her first album Don't Forget in 2008 and also joined the Jonas Brothers on her Burnin' Up tour the same year. She went on to release one of her most successful albums, Here We Go Again, in 2009, followed by a further four well-received albums. However, in 2018, the single 'Sober', in which Demi revealed details of her relapse after six years of sobriety, offered a more personal window into the star's struggles in the spotlight.
Back in 2007, when her career was reaching new heights, Demi rented out this home in Toluca Lake as her Californian base. The star stayed in the six-bedroom, seven-bathroom home with her family for two years before moving on.
Spread over three floors, the home spans just over 5,000 square feet of accommodation, offering plenty of space for the young star and her siblings. The living room boasts a double-height ceiling with a custom chandelier and drapes that frame dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows.
The traditional-style kitchen has been decked out in wooden cabinets and stone worktops. However, while many elements of the home's design are classic, it features a state-of-the-art security system, which would have been reassuring for Demi as her fame grew.
Upstairs, the sprawling home includes a luxurious master bedroom suite, which encompasses a relaxed sitting area and a large walk-in wardrobe fit for a budding celebrity.
The beautiful backyard would've been the perfect spot for relaxing and entertaining, with a pool, a spa and a spacious patio area that's easily accessed through a set of French double doors. Elsewhere on the property, there's also a handy detached two-car garage.
In September 2010, around the time of her 18th birthday, the former child star joined the property ladder and snapped up this cute home for $2.3 million (£1.8m). Purchased by Demi for themselves and her family, the Californian home sits tucked away in the foothills of the suburban neighbourhood of Sherman Oaks.
Bought whilst Demi was on tour with the Jonas Brothers, just before she entered a rehab facility in November of the same year, the walled and gated Spanish-style home has just over 4,000 square feet of space and dates back to 1928. The formal living room boasts a fireplace, arched windows and a vaulted ceiling with exposed trusses.
The four bedrooms and six bathrooms include a spacious master suite with a fireplace, two walk-in wardrobes and an ensuite bathroom with a separate bathtub and shower, while the room's small terrace has views across the San Fernando Valley and beyond.
Other stylish spaces in the main home include a family room with a media centre, a sunken wet bar and an office suite with a built-in desk. Outside there's a detached guesthouse, where Demi is said to have stayed when she wanted privacy from the rest of the family, complete with one bedroom, a full kitchen, living room and bathroom.
The backyard is the perfect private oasis. Packed with beautiful tropical trees, the rear of the property features a patio that leads out onto tiered gardens, a heated swimming pool with a waterfall and a sports court. In November 2020, Demi put the home on the market for $2.6 million (£2.1m) and sold it in January 2021 for the asking price.
In 2016, just as she was releasing her fifth album, Confident, Demi bought this plush Los Angeles home for $8.3 million (£6.6m). Hidden away in the Hollywood Hills, the mega-mansion sits perched above Sunset Boulevard and benefits from sweeping views of the city and ocean.
It may have been the lap of luxury, but in February 2017 just before Demi moved in, the home was deemed unlivable. A mudslide caused by torrential rain saw an estimated 20 tonnes of earth cascade down the hill, landing on Demi's driveway. It appears the damage was eventually resolved though as Demi was able to move in. However, the star went on to tragically suffer an overdose in the home in 2018.
The four-bedroom, seven-bathroom home sits on over an acre of land and boasts a number of wow-factor living areas, including a relaxed downstairs lounge that backs out onto the manicured garden. The upper floor is home to a party level with a bar, a media room and a huge terrace with breathtaking views.
Sleek and modern, the kitchen is the stuff of culinary dreams. With white walls and marble countertops to match, the design complements the clean neutral décor that runs through the rest of the house. In the centre of the room, stylish steel pendants light up the island – the perfect spot for a morning coffee.
Outside, the garden features an infinity pool, a hot tub and an outdoor kitchen with a dining area – ideal for entertaining A-list guests. In 2018, Demi listed the home for $9.5 million (£7.6m) but having failed to shift it, relisted the house for $9 million (£7.2m). She then decided to put the star-studded home up for rent at a huge $39,500 (£31.4k) a month. The star eventually sold the property in June 2020 for $8.3 million (£6.6m).
In June 2020, Demi splashed out $2,500 (£2k) a night to rent out a mirrored house in Joshua Tree National Park, California with her former fiancé Max Ehrich. Named Invisible House, the famous reflective residence disappears into the landscape, making it the perfect hidden home for a romantic getaway.
With a mirrored glass exterior that offers breathtaking views yet complete privacy for the home's residents, the unusual dwelling is the ultimate in luxury. Sliding glass doors open out onto 90 acres of private desert land and rocky terrain, which are perfect for exploring.
Spread over 5,500 square feet, the minimalist home has a near-zero carbon footprint, as well as three ensuite bedrooms with king-sized beds. Decorated with glass sculptures and Perspex furniture throughout, the interior reflects the home's invisible outer skin.
The chef's kitchen boasts dual sinks and an oversized island, while the bathrooms feature luxurious rain showers. With desert views from every aspect of the home, the magnificent mirrored home is one of the coolest rentals in the region.
Jam-packed full of jaw-dropping amenities, the home also has a 100-foot indoor swimming pool that offers respite from the sweltering desert heat. In January 2023 it hit the market priced at $18 million (£14.3m). We wonder who will snap up this unusual abode!
After selling her Sunset Strip home in June 2020, Demi was in the market for a new property, and she finally settled on this spectacular modern farmhouse. Set in the chilled-out Los Angeles suburb of Studio City, the star snapped up the home for $7 million (£5.6m) in September 2020.
Built in 2020, the new-build home is spread out over 8,500 square feet and features a beautiful open-plan living area with wide-plank hardwood floors, high ceilings and plenty of natural light. Light wood tones add warmth to the vast space, while mid-century light fixtures and finishes impart plenty of character.
The perfect property for indoor-outdoor living, a vast swathe of glass in the spacious family room recesses back into the wall, opening up the dining zone to the picturesque terrace beyond. We love the sleek, seamless transition between the interior and exterior.
The property has six large bedrooms and nine bathrooms. The luxurious master suite has been decorated with a calming neutral colour palette and offers stand-out features including a streamlined fireplace, built-in shelving, and a walk-in wardrobe, plus an ensuite bathroom with dual vanities.
Packed with luxe amenities, there's an extensive smart home system that's controlled remotely, and an underground garage with space for four cars. Heading outside, the swimming pool sits alongside the barbecue station and multiple seating areas. From her childhood home in Texas to a multimillion-dollar modern farmhouse in Los Angeles, all before the age of 30, we can't wait to see what Demi Lovato snaps up next!
