Having spent time living across California in Laurel Canyon, Toluca Lake and Sherman Oaks, Demi Lovato has accumulated an incredible collection of jaw-dropping real estate to date. Today, they live in a sprawling 8,500-square-foot home in the stylish Los Angeles neighbourhood of Studio City. However, the singer wasn't born into such a luxurious lifestyle.

A world away from the glitz and glamour that surrounds them today, Demetria Devonne Lovato was born on 20 August 1992, in Albuquerque, New Mexico and raised in Dallas, Texas. The middle child of three, Demi's parents, Patrick Lovato and Dianna De La Garza, divorced when the singer was just two years old. In 1995, Demi's mum married Demi's stepdad, Eddie De La Garza, who the star has spoken of as a father figure.

In September 2010, around the time of their 18th birthday, the former child star joined the property ladder and snapped up this cute home for $2.3 million (£1.7m). Purchased by Demi for themselves and their family, the Californian home sits tucked away in the foothills of the suburban neighbourhood of Sherman Oaks.

Bought whilst Demi was on tour with the Jonas Brothers, just before they entered a rehab facility in November of the same year, the walled and gated Spanish-style home has just over 4,000 square feet of space and dates back to 1928. The formal living room boasts a fireplace, arched windows and a vaulted ceiling with exposed trusses.

The four bedrooms and six bathrooms include a spacious master suite with a fireplace, two walk-in wardrobes and an ensuite bathroom with a separate bathtub and shower, while the room's small terrace has views across the San Fernando Valley and beyond.

Other stylish spaces in the main home include a family room with a media centre, a sunken wet bar and an office suite with a built-in desk. Outside there's a detached guesthouse, where Demi is said to have stayed when they wanted privacy from the rest of the family, complete with one bedroom, a full kitchen, living room and bathroom.

The backyard is the perfect private oasis. Packed with beautiful tropical trees, the rear of the property features a patio that leads out onto tiered gardens, a heated swimming pool with a waterfall and a sports court. In November 2020, Demi put the home on the market for $2.6 million (£1.9m) and sold it in January 2021 for the asking price.

In 2016, just as they were releasing their fifth album, Confident, Demi bought this plush Los Angeles home for $8.3 million (£6m). Hidden away in the Hollywood Hills, the mega-mansion sits perched above Sunset Boulevard and benefits from sweeping views of the city and ocean.

It may have been the lap of luxury, but in February 2017 just before Demi moved in, the home was deemed unlivable. A mudslide caused by torrential rain saw an estimated 20 tonnes of earth cascade down the hill, landing on Demi's driveway. It appears the damage was eventually resolved though as Demi was able to move in. However, the star went on to tragically suffer an overdose in the home in 2018.

In 2018, Demi listed the home for $9.5 million (£7m) but having failed to shift it, relisted the house for $9 million (£6.5m). They then decided to put the star-studded home up for rent at a huge $39,500 (£28.7k) a month. The star eventually sold the property in June 2020 for $8.3 million (£6m).
