Chasing pavements: inside Adele’s incredible property portfolio
From Tottenham to Tinseltown

Thanks to a combination of award-winning albums, countless Grammys and a very lucrative upcoming Las Vegas residency, multimillionaire singer and songwriter Adele has seen her life change pretty dramatically over the years. The North London-born artist, whose fourth album, 30, was released in November 2021, has also built up quite the real estate collection during her rise to the top. From dazzling London townhouses to her brand new Beverly Hills mansion bought from Sylvester Stallone, let's take a look at her property empire...
Where does Adele live?

Notoriously private, Adele keeps her family life close to her chest – most of her properties are tucked away on private roads or located in gated communities. Currently, the star is believed to own two townhouses in London's Kensington and three mega-mansions on the very same street in Beverly Hills, with plenty more plush homes having passed through her hands. Most recently she is also reported to have snapped up Sylvester Stallone's multi-million dollar mansion. However, despite her glamorous portfolio, Adele's early homes gave her humble beginnings.
Adele's hometown

Have you ever wondered where Hollywood stars lived before they were famous? A far cry from the glitz and glamour that would await her in later life, Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born in Tottenham in 1988. At the age of nine, she moved to Brighton with her mum, Penny, though she didn't stay away from London for long.
Adele's modest childhood home

Aged 11, Adele and her mother returned to south London and moved into a modest flat in West Norwood above a discount store, which has since been converted into a restaurant. At the start of her career, Adele talked candidly about the area: "Me and my mum and our flatmate live above a shop next to a garage – it caught fire a couple of months ago". Nevertheless, she's rumoured to have written 'Hometown Glory' in their snug apartment, inspired by the tight-knit south London community.

Moving out to Notting Hill

In 2006, Adele left the Brit School and within a week of graduating she'd been offered a record deal. Incredibly popular on London's live circuit, she decided to move out on her own. Adele purportedly took inspiration from her favourite film and began renting a flat in stylish Notting Hill. Two years later, her first album 19 was released and the whirlwind of fame began...
Lock House: Adele's West Sussex mansion

In 2011, the same year that her follow-up album 21 was released, Adele began renting this 13-bedroom palatial mansion in West Sussex for around £15,000 ($20.4k) a month. With the singer quickly rising to the heady heights of stardom after two Grammy wins in 2009, its remote location in this middle of the countryside was a big attraction. This was just the start of the star's property portfolio...

The dwelling offered a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of life in London. During a televised tour, Adele told US TV host Anderson Cooper that she was there "for safety". Nestled within 25 private acres, it certainly provided the privacy she craved, with the traditional home's wood-panelled walls and Persian rugs offering the ultimate country retreat away from the cameras.

Built in 1900, the property has retained many of the Art Deco touches added during its 1930s redecoration. Although the interior is kitted out with modern luxuries, it still features quirky traditional spaces like this billiard room. Following her surgery after a vocal haemorrhage in November 2011, we can imagine this was a pretty comfortable space for Adele to convalesce.

Featuring an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts and even a helicopter pad, the luxurious house went on the market in 2018 for £7.25 million ($9.8m). But Adele confessed that her use of the place was modest. "This house is a bit of a cliché, really", she said, admitting that many of the rooms were left empty.

Adele's Brighton beach house

Expanding her portfolio, she purchased this stunning Art Deco house on the beachfront in Hove, just outside Brighton, for £2.5 million ($3.4m) in 2012. The year also marked an even more momentous event – the birth of her son, Angelo, in October.

Located on Western Esplanade, or Millionaires' Row as it's known, the property would've been similar to this, with four bedrooms and spacious open-plan rooms spread across two storeys. This affluent stretch of homes is the go-to spot for celebs in search of the sea, with Fatboy Slim, David Walliams and Heather Mills among its past and present residents.

Homes here are outfitted with every luxury finish money can buy and the bathrooms are no exception. As well as breathtaking sea views from every window, Adele's beautiful beach house would've benefited from an array of private balconies for enjoying the occasional English sunshine.

With its own private stretch of beach and a tranquil wood deck for admiring the coastline, we're not surprised this property caught Adele's eye. She sold up four years later in 2016, making a tidy profit of £350,000 ($477k).
Adele's home in London

Around the same time, Adele made moves on the London property scene too, snapping up a mews house in exclusive Kensington for £5.65 million ($7.7m) and then purchasing the house next door for £5.38 million ($7.3m) with the intention of combining the properties. She also went on to buy her mum, Penny, an apartment nearby for £600,000 ($817k). All the while though, Adele had her sights set on the US...

Typically guarded, Adele kept a tight lid on where she was staying, but thanks to several leaked details – the vintage bowling alley in the home's basement and references to the property's previous musical owner, Sir Paul McCartney – fans quickly sniffed out the star's new dwelling.

The huge property's main house stretches 12,000 square feet with seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms, plus a three-car garage and plenty of surrounding land. With a huge bar and wine cellar on the lower level, we've no doubt that this home has seen its fair share of shindigs.

The Hamptons-style interiors offer chic living spaces, while the palatial bathroom includes a freestanding bath and a chandelier. Elsewhere, there are large terraces for soaking up the LA sun and an outdoor kitchen for entertaining. Other famous past residents of the impressive estate include Melanie Griffiths and the Osbourne family.
Adele's Malibu holiday home

While the hunt for the perfect Beverly Hills pad continued, Adele added to her property collection with a holiday home on the sunny shores of Malibu in 2015. Costing her £3.8 million ($5.2 m), it was said to be love at first sight for the singer, when she laid eyes on the hacienda-style house and really, who can blame her?

Complete with an infinity pool and Jacuzzi overlooking the ocean, Adele would bring her family here to soak up the winter sun. The 3,770 square-foot mansion is set within a secure, gated community while being a mere stone's throw away from the beach below. A star-studded complex, Adele's new neighbours included Pierce Brosnan, Barbra Streisand and Pamela Anderson.

After a busy few years, this luxury retreat must've been the ideal place for Adele to enjoy some much-needed downtime – in 2012 she released the James Bond theme song Skyfall, which went on to win an Academy Award, and the following year she was awarded an MBE by the Queen for services to music. At this time, she was likely working on her third album 25, which would be released in November of 2015.

Inside, the lavish three-bed home is decorated with a crisp clean palette and warm wood accents and even features a circular bar overlooking the ocean. While purportedly smitten with the pad, Adele appears to have sold up two years later in 2017, for £3.5 million ($4.8m), which was less than the singer originally paid. With a world tour commencing the previous year, the singer was likely short on time to kick back here.
Adele's New York City penthouse

When the Adele Live tour arrived in New York City, this mind-blowing penthouse became the megastar's home away from home during her run of sell-out shows at Madison Square Garden. Owned by basketball star Deron Williams, Adele forked out £43,000 ($58k) a week to rent the stylish piece of real estate.

Tucked away in the city's skyline, the opulent home offers six bedrooms and seven bathrooms spread across an enormous 7,200 square feet of interior space. With outdoor roof gardens and terraces measuring 2,700 square feet – bigger than the average American home – the Tribeca apartment is big enough to house a small village!

Adele's Beverly Hills mansion

The same year, Adele finally found the Beverly Hills estate she'd been yearning for. Snapped up in 2016 for a cool £6.9 million ($9.5m), she made the purchase after signing a record-breaking £105 million ($143m) contract with Sony Music. Seems like a pretty apt way to celebrate!

Built in 1977, the elegant estate has an airy open-plan layout that's perfect for family living. A whitewashed fireplace offers a cool and calming focal point in the lounge, however we're not sure that mantelpiece is big enough for the star's numerous awards.

White-beamed ceilings and an open kitchen add to the beach house vibe in the chic 6,500-square-foot property. Popular among the rich and famous, the home is nestled in the gated community of Hidden Valley, with actresses Jennifer Lawrence and Cameron Diaz for celebrity neighbours.

Upstairs, you'll find four spacious bedrooms, including the master suite which comes complete with two walk-in closets to accommodate the singer's vast wardrobe. However, our favourite space has to be this library nook on the first floor – we can just imagine curling up with a book here beneath that impressive vaulted ceiling.

This restful residence offered the ideal space for the family to enjoy a private life away from the limelight. When her mammoth world tour of 107 shows was cut short after the singer damaged her vocal cords, Adele returned home to Beverly Hills to see this heart-warming banner from her son Angelo in the entrance hall.

Shielded by towering hedges, the outside space is equally as dreamy. With something for adults and little ones alike, the mansion's gorgeous backyard features landscaped grounds, mature trees, a pool and a spa, while a treehouse and outdoor train are sure to appeal to nine-year-old Angelo.
Adele's East Grinstead manor house

Not content with the mansion in Beverly Hills, Adele snapped up a stunning eight-bed Tudor manor house in the UK in 2017. Located in a remote, rural spot in East Grinstead, West Sussex, the home was listed with Savills for around £4 million ($5.4m). In the listing, the estate is described as being "amidst beautiful, lightly wooded countryside in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, bordering the picturesque Bluebell Steam Railway".

Bursting with character, the property has an amazing history and is thought to date back to the 16th century. Original beams, brickwork and exposed timber show off the traditional period features, with several original open fireplaces still remaining. This double-height living room is particularly impressive – just imagine how snug that hearth would be come winter!

Decked out in traditional country-inspired decor, the estate also includes three additional cottages for visiting guests, while bluebell meadows and two Victorian greenhouses offer a true taste of affluent country living. However, after Adele filed for divorce from Simon in September 2019, she sold the home at the end of the year for £3 million ($4.1m), at a loss of £1 million ($1.4m).
Adele's second Beverly Hills home

Early in 2019, Adele picked up a second property in the same affluent Beverly Hills neighbourhood of Hidden Valley. With a price tag of £7.8 million ($10.7m), the sleek contemporary home is located right across the street from her existing estate.

With a stunning landscaped garden, large pool and Jacuzzi, we're supremely envious of this lavish property. This is thought to be the home that Adele's ex-husband Simon Konecki stays in, making it easy for the pair to co-parent their young son.

Adele's third Beverly Hills mansion

In May 2021, Adele snapped up her third Beverly Hills mansion, on the very same street, for just shy of £7.3 million ($10m) from long-time friend, Nicole Richie. The TV personality and her husband, Joel Madden, forked out £4.9 million ($6.7m) for the home in 2015, so would have made a hefty profit from the off-market sale.

Details of the sale are scarce, but a recent listing reveals that the new pad was built in 1957 and boasts five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Spread over 5,500 square feet, the home sits on half-an-acre of land and has a pool and spa, as well as a garage. After revealing her new look on social media, Adele posted a series of photos captured at home, in which she celebrated her birthday.

In the November 2021 issue of British Vogue, Adele told interviewers: “The kind of house I have in LA I could never afford in London. Ever,” adding that she wanted “fresh air and somewhere where I could see the sky.” Her three Beverly Hills homes span a combined 18,000 square feet and cost her £22 million ($30m). To compare, a 18,000-square-foot penthouse in London recently had a £182 million ($247m) asking price, according to the New York Post.
Adele buys Sly Stallone's Beverly Hills mansion

Most recently, at the beginning of 2022, news broke that Adele was reportedly about to become the owner of Sylvester Stallone's lavish Beverly Hills mansion. According to TMZ, the star has entered into escrow - a contractual arrangement preceding a sale - for the massive home, and what's more, she's getting it for a hugely reduced price.

In January 2021, Stallone listed the home for a whopping $110 million (£81.5m), but with no takers, he dropped the price to $85 million (£63m) in May and then again to $80 million (£59m) in October, according to the listing. However, TMZ reports that the songstress is paying a cut price of $58 million (£43m) for the home, which is a steal, according to real estate sources. Let's take a look around Adele's new home...

The lavish mansion is a world away from Adele's fondness for neutral decor with vibrant and colourful furniture dotted around the home. The two-storey hallway leads through to the formal living and dining rooms, which sit alongside this family room that's been decked out with a piano and pool table.

Not short of lavish amenities, the mega-mansion is perfect for one of the world's best-selling music artists. A home screening room sits alongside a state-of-the-art gym, a cigar room with its very own air-filtration system and a stunning custom bar.
