Befitting of royalty, this palatial property in Wales has a pretty hot extra...

When estate agents say something’s hot property, you might take it with a pinch of salt. However, in the case of Castell Gyrn, it’s actually true.

Not only has the asking price been slashed by a whopping £2 million, but the grand residence also comes complete with its own fire-breathing dragon to guard it for you. Now you don’t get any hotter than that.

The elaborate castle in Denbighshire, North Wales was once tipped to be the home of football manager Jose Mourinho, but three years later it’s failed to shift in a difficult market and is now on sale for a cool £1.75 million.

Occupying an arresting position in a sprawling 10-acre estate, the sale includes a five-bed home, detached one-bedroom lodge, triple garage, landscaped courtyard and grotto. However, the home's most unique feature by far is the carved dragon who guards the entrance gate, emitting flames through his nostrils.

While the Game of Thrones-worthy castle – that even comes with its own tower – might look like it’s been part of the landscape for centuries, it’s actually one of the UK’s youngest, built just 42 years ago.

Inside, you can enjoy life in the lap of luxury in seriously grand living quarters befitting of this regal residence. Look out for rustic stone fireplaces, coats of arms and the odd stuffed bear or suit of armour.

Accommodation spans 7,800 square feet and includes five ensuite bedrooms of palatial proportions. The master suite is particularly spacious, almost occupying an entire floor and comfortably housing a handsome four-poster bed, as well as a decadent dressing room.

Throughout the castle are five reception rooms, with the living room and sitting room offering more casual spaces to relax. Meanwhile, the formal dining room is worthy of a medieval banquet, with wood panelling, ceiling cornicing and a chandelier.

Just off from the dining room,  the large reception area with a splendid fireplace doubles up as a library, so you can proudly display all your favourite books.

One of our favourite spaces in Castle Gyrn is the beautiful kitchen, which is served by a walk-in pantry and a utility room. Surely the heart of the home, the orangery-style breakfast area is flooded with light and creates a sociable spot for the whole family to mingle.

Meanwhile, from the castle’s tower, residents can access the roof of the property, where you can savour phenomenal 360-degree views of the surrounding countryside.

We reckon this lavish dwelling would make a wonderful family home, although agents also suggest it could be a successful wedding venue or fine dining restaurant.

If you fancy playing king or queen of the castle in your very own majestic mansion, it’s set for auction on 30th May at the Intercontinental Hotel, Park Street, London with estate agent Hinchliffe Holmes. The guide price is £1.75 million, so bring your chequebook!
