Social media stars and their amazing houses
Cool cribs of the world's biggest online stars

Trisha Paytas, YouTube and media personality

YouTube is home to many outlandish social media personalities like Trisha Paytas, an American vlogger and singer who’s never far from controversy. She’s famed for filming her bizarre song covers and emotional breakdowns, which result in waves of backlash and speculation about their authenticity. Her eccentric videos have attracted almost five million subscribers to her YouTube channel and she went on to appear in Celebrity Big Brother in the UK in 2017.

Having previously rented a luxury residence in Studio City which reportedly cost $11,500 (£9k) per month, in January this year the controversial star splashed out $3.7 million (£2.7m) for a sprawling estate in Westlake Village, California. The nearly 7,500-square-foot house was built in 1990 and underwent a full-scale renovation last year courtesy of the previous owners.

Upstairs, the master bedroom is vast with a sitting area and marble fireplace, plus a master bath “that rivals any spa you’ve ever been to,” according to the listing. There are gold Calacatta marble fixtures, dual showers, dual vanities, a soaking tub, and a separate steam room, while the closet will accommodate all of the star’s designer attire.
Shroud, Twitch and YouTube gamer

Canadian gamer Michael Grzesiek – better known to his millions of YouTube and Twitch subscribers as Shroud – has amassed almost 7 million followers on YouTube and 9.6 million on Twitch. The 27-year-old has been streaming for over 10 years, and while he has a long list of accomplishments, 2019 was particularly fortuitous. Having signed a contract to leave Twitch in favour of Microsoft’s Mixer app, when it subsequently folded into Facebook Gaming Shroud refused to join Facebook. The gamer was reportedly paid a $10 million (£7.4m) lump sum contract buyout – after which he immediately returned to Twitch!
Shroud's LA mansion

The gamer recently put down nearly $10 million (£7.4m) on this six-bed eight-bathroom pad in one of LA’s most exclusive neighbourhoods, Calabasas. He already owns a luxury home in California’s Orange County, but reportedly had been looking to move for more than a year. During a live stream last September, the star told fans “For real though … [I’ve] been looking into new houses and stuff … I’m kind of like over the place where I live now.” It’s certainly a step up as some of his new neighbours include Jeffree Star, Drake and of course the Kardashians.

Originally built in 1980, the private pad was renovated in 2018, when it was sold for $6 million (£4.4m) to real estate developer Russell Geyser, who overhauled the gated property into a "Hawaiian-influenced contemporary" style. Inside the main house, an airy open-plan living area features skylights and huge windows to admire the San Fernando Valley view. A double-sided fireplace takes centre stage in the lounge area and keeps it cosy.

The gamer can relax after a full day off streaming – he reportedly streams for seven to 12 hours a day – in his luxury master suite, which includes this gorgeous ensuite bathroom with luxurious soaking tub with a view of the landscaped garden. Talk about a room with a view!
Jeffree Star, MySpace star and beauty YouTuber

Jeffree Star began his online career in the mid-2000s when he started sharing his music on MySpace, quickly rising to become one of the platform's original stars. After making the jump to YouTube, he garnered millions of followers with his make-up tutorials and went on to launch Jeffree Star Cosmetics in 2014. It was an instant success and in 2020, Forbes declared Star the tenth highest-paid YouTuber, with an annual takeaway of $15 million (£11.1m), despite the controversy that follows him.

Many fans were sad to say goodbye to Jeffree’s iconic all-pink Calabasas pad, but his current home, which he laid down $14.6 million (£10.1m) for, is equally as jaw-dropping. Approaching the amazing American estate through one of two gated entrances, past the equestrian facilities and into the well-manicured front garden, you’ll find a sprawling eight-bedroom mansion that spans over 25,000 square feet in LA's private Hidden Hills community.

The regal property has everything the make-up mogul could need, including an underground 16-car garage which houses Star's Barbie pink Lamborghini and a glass lift to transport you from level to level. The master bedroom consists of a self-contained apartment that comes with dual baths, a sauna, two walk-in closets and a fireplace. Keen to make his mark, Jeffree coated the property in plenty of crushed velvet.

The home’s out-of-this-world amenities include a security office, a games room, multiple bars, a home theatre, a pinball room, a stone wine cellar and a two-storey gym with hotel-grade facilities including a spa, Jacuzzi and massage therapy stations. Jeffree also talked of restyling one of the bedrooms as a homage to his old pink home, featuring souvenirs and relics from this era of his life.

To add to the extravagance, the outdoor patio comes complete with a huge cerulean pool and an attached firepit with a full kitchen and TV. There are also two guesthouses, as well as a 5,400-square-foot outbuilding. Yet, despite all this in June this year Star put the pad on the market and is reportedly moving to Wyoming, where he already owns a ranch and is building a new mansion. While there have been rumours swirling that he's moving from California to Wyoming for tax benefits, he says he simply, "no longer feels the urgent need to flaunt materialistic success." We can't wait to see what he does with his new Wyoming pad!
KSI, YouTuber and musician

KSI aka JJ Olatunji is perhaps one of Britain's best-known YouTube stars. Yet social media isn't the only string to his bow. As well as co-founding the Sidemen YouTube group and embarking on a music career, KSI also took on American internet personality Logan Paul in a boxing match after their digital feud escalated. The fight was named the "biggest amateur boxing match in history" and KSI won after six rounds. With 14.1 million YouTube followers, he is worth an estimated $20 million (£14.8m).

Unsurprisingly, KSI put his fortune to good use and purchased a mammoth mansion on the outskirts of London in 2016. Nicknamed the Sidemen House, the YouTube personality lived in the luxurious home until 2019 and shared it with three of his fellow social media stars: Miniminter, Zerkaa and Vikkstar123.

The six-bedroom detached home reportedly cost $8.7 million (£6.4m) and boasts plenty of VIP-worthy details. Alongside the large, glistening kitchen, the 15,000-square-foot home features a grand hallway with a bespoke walnut and polished steel staircase. Elsewhere, there's a self-contained apartment, as well as a grand master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, dressing room, private sitting room and access to a private roof terrace.

Of course, a group of YouTube stars with pockets full of cash needed plenty of eye-catching home features to show off and the Sidemen House doesn't disappoint there, either. As well as a home cinema, the incredible bachelor pad includes a state-of-the-art gym and a beauty salon, plus a large swimming pool complex with a sauna, steam room and hot tub.

Access to the property is via a columned entrance with electric wrought-iron gates that open onto a sweeping driveway. The mansion's landscaped garden offers a sprawling lawn, a picturesque courtyard patio and an elegant water feature, while a four-car garage provides the perfect spot to showcase a prized car collection. KSI sold the house in 2019 and now reportedly resides in a penthouse apartment in London.
Casey Neistat, YouTuber and entrepreneur

American YouTube personality Casey Neistat is known for more than just creating digital content – the filmmaker and vlogger is also an entrepreneur. As well as co-founding Beme, a video business which has since been acquired by CNN, he also established 368, a workspace where creatives and influencers can collaborate. Neistat got his big break back in 2003 when he created a viral video about Apple's battery problems. With a net worth that's estimated at $16 million (£11.8m), Neistat now has more than 12 million YouTube followers.

With such a fortune, it's unsurprising that Neistat's home is pretty spectacular. He purchased the modern Californian compound two years ago for $3.7 million (£2.9m) and it isn't hard to see why it caught his eye. Light, bright and beautifully designed, the property is located just a stone's throw away from world-renowned Venice Beach in LA and was even featured in Architectural Digest.

Neistat and his family spent lockdown in the home, making the most of its flowing indoor-outdoor layout. Spanning 3,496 square feet, the home boasts five bedrooms and four bathrooms, as well as a gorgeous open-plan kitchen with a double-height ceiling and expansive glazing that leads out to a tranquil exterior deck.

After purchasing the pad, Neistat and his jewellery designer wife, Candice Pool, thoroughly renovated the interior to their exacting standards. Built in 2015, the modern fortress-like house is encircled by a high wall that shelters plenty of outdoor living spaces, allowing for complete privacy. Retractable walls of glass open up to the pool, spa and outdoor kitchen and elsewhere, there's a handy three-car detached garage with built-in Tesla chargers.

No detail has been overlooked throughout the impeccable interior, with the bedrooms and living spaces featuring a bright, beach-inspired neutral colour scheme. Despite spending a lot of time and money on the renovation, the family house was reportedly put up for sale in September 2020.
James Charles, beauty YouTuber

When Birmingham city centre in the UK was brought to a standstill in January 2019, locals could only speculate the cause. In fact, it was James Charles, a beauty vlogger who’s garnered around 24.6 million YouTube subscribers. Now, he’s also gained 24.5 million Instagram followers and enjoys many lucrative partnerships with big brands. In 2019, he hit the headlines again after a feud with fellow YouTuber Tati Westbrook, which reportedly lost him over one million YouTube subscribers in a 24-hour period – a record for the site.

Situated in the Encino neighbourhood of California’s San Fernando Valley, the five-bedroom home was built in 2016 and James began leasing the plush property in 2018. From the exterior, you can see the two-car garage, which is presumably where he parked his Tesla Model X. Located on the top floor was the 22-year-old’s incredible home vlogging studio, as well as a luxurious guest room for hosting visitors.

In 2020, at the tender age of just 20-years-old Charles reportedly snapped up this new home in the same LA enclave of Encino, in a $7 million (£5.2m) off-market deal. The modern farmhouse-style new build bears more than a passing resemblance to the star's former rental, with a two-tone charcoal and cream paint job. According to Dirt.com, Charles' new pad is brand-new and was never publicly listed for sale, so photographs and exact details are scarce. However, tax records show the house sits on a half-acre flat lot, on a residential tree-lined street.

Troye Sivan, YouTube personality and musician

Troye Sivan has had a diverse career, rising to prominence in 2006 after singing on Australian TV and subsequently forging an acting career, starring in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Spud and Boy Erased. In 2012, he started uploading vlogs and song covers to YouTube, catching the attention of major record label, EMI Australia. The 26-year-old now mainly focuses on music, having achieved mainstream recognition with chart-topping singles, successful albums and a plethora of sold-out tours.

Located in the Hollywood Hills, the A-list neighbours of Sivan's incredible Art Deco home included Lady Gaga and Will Ferrell. The singer shared his architecturally intriguing home with his model boyfriend Jacob Bixenman and their dog Nash, but they have reportedly now gone their separate ways. It was built in 1958 in the classic post-and-beam style but includes elements of Bauhaus and other contemporary-futuristic design aesthetics.

The four-bedroom pad measures a generous 3,380 square feet, with a formal dining area and a gourmet-style kitchen on the ground floor, plus a primary living room with a voluminous double-height ceiling. But the place where Troye hung out the most can be found backing onto the outdoor space. This stylish sitting area is decked out in mid-century modern fixtures, with low-hung seating, a retro fireplace and furniture made from biomorphic shapes and materials.

The outdoor space is relatively modest, but there’s a small pool and a beautiful view of the verdant surroundings. The long bench that runs along the garden wall is large enough for Troye to have hosted his mega-famous friends, including Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift – we wonder how many times they’ve partied long into the night? Despite Troye making the States his home for many years, the star made the move back to Oz last year, after reportedly feeling homesick and now lives in a stylish pad in Melbourne.
Michelle Phan, beauty YouTuber and entrepreneur

Regarded as one of the first beauty vloggers, Michelle Phan pioneered the genre of online beauty tutorials. She was among the first business-minded social media stars to monetise their hobby, and since making her debut in 2005, she co-launched the make-up subscription company Ipsy in 2011, which is now valued at $800 million (£591m). Phan returned to making videos for her 8.9 million subscribers in September 2019, after a two-year hiatus.
Michelle Phan’s Bauhaus Brentwood home

Understood to be Michelle’s first home purchase, it certainly isn’t a modest one – and how many of us can say we could splash out $4.7 million (£3.7m) on our first property? Originally designed by the Romanian-American mid-century modernist architect Haralamb H Georgescu in 1969, the Bauhaus-style residence was renovated by Los Angeles firm Kurt Krueger Architects in 2017. Located at the end of a long, private driveway, the property consists of a main house as well as a guesthouse for hosting visitors in style.

Stepping inside Michelle’s historic LA home is like walking into a time capsule. Multi-levelled, it’s both retro and contemporary with a mezzanine floor that overlooks the open-plan living room. The home has plenty of restored features, such as the mahogany panelling, which also clads the reading nook which sits above. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow light to flood in and frame views of the thick, green woodland outside.

Michelle’s eating area and retro kitchen are making us nostalgic. Along with the renovations made to the rest of the home, the kitchen has been completely reconfigured to fit modern requirements while still retaining the old-fashioned feel. Remade to fit the original specifications of the house, the cabinetry is rich and warm, contrasting beautifully with the blonde-coloured wooden floors that run throughout the house.

Jake Paul, social media prankster

One-half of the always-courting-controversy Paul brothers, Jake Paul and his older sibling Logan became Gen-Z household names thanks to their popular prankster videos on the now-defunct Vine video app in 2013. In an extraordinarily short amount of time, Jake has amassed a reported net worth of $30 million (£22.1m) through contentious YouTube videos, entrepreneurial ventures and forays into acting and boxing. He now has over 20 million YouTube subscribers and 17.3 million Instagram followers.
Jake Paul’s Calabasas mega-mansion

In 2017, at the tender age of 20, Jake purchased this sprawling $6.9 million (£5.1m) mansion in the Los Angeles suburb of Calabasas. Originally built in 1990, the seven-bedroom house was one of YouTube’s most famous cribs and home to Jake’s Team 10 squad, a group of influencers he manages. Together, they lived like a kind of fraternity house, creating content for their millions of followers. But many social media stars who have lived under the Team 10 roof have complained of its toxic atmosphere.

The Team 10 house is tucked away in a gated community, and offered plenty of privacy for Paul and his fledgling YouTube stars. The home’s front door swings open to reveal a grand entrance foyer stretching over three storeys, with a vast spiral staircase that's nothing short of showstopping.

On the ground floor, ultra-high coffered ceilings and two-storey windows impart grandeur to the living spaces. As well as a modern kitchen on this level, there's also a handy kitchenette attached to the master bedroom. According to former housemate Alissa Violet, strict rules were reportedly enforced, from restrictions on visitors to penalties if residents aren't filming by 10am.

The home includes bedrooms for just about everybody, an office for employees, a home theatre, plenty of balconies and terraces that look out over the Calabasas Hills, two built-in barbecue areas and a lagoon-style pool with tumbling waterfalls. In addition to the kitchenette, the master bedroom also has an ensuite bathroom with a large glass shower complete with a Bluetooth music system and steam features. The star, wanting to focus on his boxing career sold the mansion earlier this year, for $6.15 million (£4.5m), $775,000 (£572k) less than he paid in 2017.
